For the past few weeks Finnegan has been attempting to roll over until
yesterday when I gave him a little push and he rolled over very easily.
Once he was on his belly, he discovered that the world was not such a
bad place with his tummy on the ground. However, today I was not
ready for his rapid advancements and I've been on alert.
At lunchtime I was visiting a friend from our old neighborhood and
Finnegan was rolling all over his blanket playing with his toys and Sue
and I had a nice tea and caught up on things. It was very nice to see
Finnegan amuse himself and to watch him happily progress to a
semi-mobile state.
When we got home I put him in his bouncy chair in the kitchen and gave
him some toys to play with. Then I went into the living room to get
something when I heard a thud and Finnegan began to cry. I rushed back
into the kitchen to find him face first on the floor with his leg
tangled in the safety straps of his bouncy seat. I was horrified and
quickly scooped him up. He wasn't hurt, mostly scared and upset. It
took a while to calm him down and reassure him that everything was
okay, but I felt terrible for preventing his fall.
The bouncy seat is now on the front porch awaiting it's fate to either
be recycled or given away. I'm not sure which it will be, but it
signifies the passage of Finnegan's time as an immobile baby and the
beginning of a new phase of development.
