Ooohhh Baby!
Tonight I attended a Seattle Professional Photographers Association
meeting as I was one of the featured speakers. My topic, "Paying it
forward with creative album design." I basically drove home the point
that as photographers we must create beautiful albums for all of our
clients in order to get future clients from our current clients. I
felt really rusty, because I spoke too fast and stumbled a few times.
But to my great surprise everyone said I was very energetic and they
liked my presentation. You never know how people will respond, but
they asked lots of questions and they understood the concepts I was
talking about.
As usual I'm full of energy now because I love to teach and I get
excited when I'm in front of people, it's a performance. It's late and
Doug and Finnegan are asleep and I don't want to disturb them, but it's
nice to be home with them in our little haven. I missed Finnegan while
I was away for 3.5 hours. I never knew how much I would love Finnegan
and how much he would change my life perspective. One of my colleagues
asked me how I like being a mother and I told him that I now realize
how selfish and self-absorbed I was before Finnegan was born. I was a
pretty nice person and everything, but now I'm a much better person. I
appreciate Doug so much more and Finnegan totally depends on me and I
want to take care of his needs before my own. It's a great feeling to
be needed.
When I returned this evening Doug told me that Finnegan was not happy
when he gave him his bottle. He said Finnegan was upset that I was not
there to feed him. My baby loves me. As I peered down at Finnegan for
the first time tonight, he looked at me with his intense little stare
and a huge smile washed over his face and he said, "Oooooh!" I knew
that he missed me and that was his way of saying so. I know this
because we always play a little game of saying, "Ooooh." when I am
changing his diaper and today he replied to my "O's" three times. So,
when his little face lit up and he said "Oopph," I knew that he missed
me. I said, "Ooooh" and kissed him goodnight as he closed his eyes to
go to sleep.
Oooh what a great day.

well, he was really mad at first. The milk was cold and the nipple was the wrong shape! But eventually he did decide he wanted to eat and then we had a nice long sit-down where Finn smiled and ate and talked (gurgle gaggle google) to me around the bottle in his mouth. I think he loves us both very much, but now we know he does know the difference between us!
